  • Report: Global Freedom Declines for 4th Year
  • 報告稱全球自由度連續第四年下降
  •   The U.S.-based human rights monitoring group, Freedom House, says global freedom declined last year for the fourth year in a row.The slump represents the longest continuous decline in the report's nearly 40-year history.
  • 總部設在美國的人權觀察組織 "自由之家" 表示,去年全球的自由度連續第四年下降;這是自由之家年度報告近 40 年歷史中持續時間最長的下降。

  •   The group's research director, Arch Puddington, said the declines were notable in almost every part of the world, particularly in Africa, Latin America, the former Soviet Union and the Middle East.

  • South Korea Dismisses North Korea's Peace Talks Offer

  •   South Korea has dismissed North Korea's offer to start peace talks to formally end the Korean War, saying such dialogue can be held only after Pyongyang returns to six-party talks on its nuclear program.
  • 南韓表示不會接受北韓要求開始和平對話,正式結束北韓戰爭的提議;南韓說,這樣的對話只有在北韓返回討論其核項目的六方會談後才能進行。

  •   South Korean officials say North Korea must also take steps toward denuclearization, before discussions on a peace treaty to end the Korean War can take place.
