第三部 第四課: nerd , cheesy
- Michael 和李華這兩個大學生，白天上了好幾門課，晚飯後又做功課。李華決定到 Michael 的宿舍去休息一下，看一會電視。今天Michael 會教李華兩個常用語：nerd 和 cheesy。

- Are you okay, Li Hua? What's wrong? Why are you crying?
- 我沒事啦，這個電視劇喔，讓人挺傷心的。看到這種電視劇呀，我總是會哭的，真是沒辦法。
- You are such a nerd.
- 哎！你叫我什麼？A nerd? 我知道那不是什麼好話，可是 nerd 到底是什麼意思啊？
- If you call someone a nerd, n-e-r-d, it means you think he is weird and not cool. It can be used in many different situations.
- 哦～，nerd 是指那種跟一般人不一樣，有點怪的人。Nerd 可以用在很多不同的場合。那你今天穿了這套衣服，怪怪的，我就可以說：You're a nerd. 對不對？
- Me? A nerd? Well, yes, you could call me a nerd.
- 我啊，肯定好多人都叫你a nerd。
- As a matter of fact, when I was growing up, a lot of kids called me a nerd because I didn't fit in.

- A typical nerd is someone who wears glasses and carries a lot of books.
- 哦～，那就是書獃子的形像嘛，戴著眼鏡，還拿著很多書。
- That's right. If someone is always studying, or seems to know the answers to everything, you can call him a nerd.
- 老是唸書，什麼都知道的人，那不就是個書獃子嗎？ Michael 啊，我看你有的時候穿衣服是有點怪，也許人家會叫你 nerd，可是，你絕對不會成為書獃子的。

- 哎，這個電視劇好多人都喜歡，我也很喜歡；可你又在說什麼批評的話， 我不知道 cheesy 是什麼意思，但是我知道你是在說它不好。
- Cheesy, c-h-e-e-s-y, means tacky or dumb. It's usually used to describe a TV show, movie, or something someone says.
- 哦～，cheesy 就是很俗氣、質量很次、很愚蠢，人們經常會用 cheesy 這個詞來形容電視節目、電影或是某個人說的話。
- I think the new TV soap opera on Channel 6 is so cheesy. It is fake and the things they say on the shows are so weird. I don't know why these shows are so popular.
- 對哎，我也看了頻道六那個新的電視連續劇。情節是很虛假，對話也很怪。為什麼這麼多人喜歡看呢？我告訴你吧。因為啊看這種節目你總想知道結局如何嘛。我有的時候啊還會流淚的呢。
- How can those cheesy TV shows make you cry? You're such a nerd.
- 什麼？你說我是個 nerd?
- Don't be mad, Li Hua. But you are a nerd. No one cries while watching these cheesy TV shows!
- 我就不信沒有其他人看這些電視節目不哭的。我不跟你說了，我要回去了。

- 今天李華真是生氣了，因為 Michael 說她是個 nerd，也就是說她「這個人有點怪」．後來她同意繼續在 Michael 家看完那 cheesy 電視節目． cheesy 就是「很俗氣、沒有水平」的意思。
